Course Overview
This course is designed to help anyone working with or studying electrical theory, especially first year electrical apprenticeship students working with mathematical relationships in electrical circuits. Emphasis will be placed on numerical descriptions of electrical circuits and the units involved. Students will work with fractions, decimals numbers, percentages, metric units and prefixes. Students will analyze simple series circuits, parallel circuits and combination circuits, as well as the various methods of calculating electrical values in those circuits. Students will be introduced to the concept of magnetism and the calculations involved. Students will analyze simple electronic circuits featuring diodes and single power transistors. Students will also be introduced to simple concepts from the Canadian Electrical Code and basic calculations involving ampacity of conductors, pull box calculations and voltage drop calculations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the basic functions of numbers and mathematical operations and use those skills to solve problems relating to series, parallel and combination DC circuits.
- Solve problems related to simple magnetic circuits, electronic circuits, AC generation and simple Canadian Electrical Code calculations.
