The BCIT Counselling Practicum Training Program offers a Master’s level practicum position with an enriching and comprehensive training experience designed for students passionate about pursuing a career in post-secondary student counselling or related settings.

  • Duration and Schedule: The practicum runs from September through April, requiring a commitment of three days per week, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Experiences: Expect a broad range of experiences, including individual and some group counselling opportunities, weekly supervision, a diversity of clients and presenting concerns, bi-weekly group consultations and the flexibility to adapt your theoretical orientation and intervention approaches.
  • Professional Development: Gain confidence in fulfilling your required practicum hours, opportunities for longer-term counselling with some clients, and the chance to work within a collaborative and highly skilled educational community.

Application deadlines are in early February each year, and positions are open until filled.

Steps to apply

Step 1 – Prepare your application package

Include a current resume and a one-page cover letter of intent outlining your professional objectives, expected training, how this placement fits your career goals, and the skills you bring to the position.

Step 2 – Submit your application

Step 3 – Participate in the selection process

Short-listed candidates will be invited for a video interview. During the interview, you will present a 15-minute mock counselling video demonstrating your basic counselling skills.
