Motorcycle Technician Foundation Program
Ready to kickstart a career in the motorcycle, ATV, and side-by-side industry? BCIT’s Motorcycle Technician Foundation program provides the hands-on experience and foundational knowledge you need to get started. With a blend of technical training and real-world skills, this full-time program will set you up for success in the fast-paced world of motorcycle service and repair.
About the program
The Motorcycle Technician Foundation program is designed for students who are new to the trade. No prior experience is required, as this program covers the basics of motorcycle, ATV, and side-by-side maintenance and repair. You’ll gain essential skills in diagnostics, repair, electrical systems, and communication, preparing you for an entry-level role in the industry.
Upon completion, you’ll receive a BCIT program completion certificate and 300 work-based training hours towards your apprenticeship. You’ll also be set up with an apprenticeship number through SkilledTradesBC, putting you on track for Level 2 technical training once you’ve gained additional work experience in the field. Students can also access Yamaha Canada’s internal Bronze certification course, further expanding their technical knowledge.
Who should apply
This program is perfect for high school students, recent graduates, and anyone passionate about the motorcycle industry. High school students may even be eligible to complete dual credit and get a head start on their apprenticeship hours. It’s also a great fit for individuals looking to retrain, provided they are comfortable with the physical demands of the job, which involves standing, pushing, lifting, and working with various motorcycles and ATVs.
If you love working with motorcycles and have a strong interest in repair, diagnostics, and riding, this program is for you! While a Class 6 motorcycle license is not required, having one can be beneficial. You’ll need a computer and basic computer skills to navigate online learning, as some course content is delivered via BCIT’s online learning hub.
