Before you Submit – Early Assist can be effective in complex situations requiring a coordinated case management approach. In other cases, the best intervention may be for a student to directly access a particular service.
Check the Student Services page for service information, or try AI Assist or the Ask Us page for general questions. Faculty and staff are encouraged to access the Supporting Students in Distress Response Guide for in-the-moment guidance on responding to student needs.

BCIT values you and your well-being. We understand that personal, financial, medical, social, and learning challenges can impact your academic progress. It can also be hard to know what supports are available, and how to access them. We are here to help!
Why Early Assist?
Early Assist is a confidential service that provides students with an opportunity to work 1:1 with a case manager to:
- Navigate BCIT services and community resources.
- Identify potential solutions through coaching and problem-solving conversations.
- Understand your options for moving forward with your studies.
- Develop an action plan with clear next steps.
- Empower you to take action with professional support by your side.
How It Works
Step 1: Submit a referral
Whether you’re a BCIT student who needs support, or know a BCIT student who could benefit from Early Assist, you can submit a referral.
Step 2: Student Life Office reaches out
The case manager reviews the referral and contacts the student, usually within two business days, to offer appropriate support or arrange a meeting.
Step 3: Work together
The student and a case manager meet to collaboratively explore available solutions and develop a personalized plan.
Request Early Assist Support
Submitting an Early Assist referral is the best and most efficient way to get connected with assistance. Anyone can submit a referral, and students can self-refer.
